The Medical Defence Union (MDU) has launched a new app which allows members to access expert medico-legal advice.

The app enables members to customise their news feeds so they receive content which is of interest and relevance to them, get assistance by searching frequently asked questions and scour the MDU’s vast number of case studies, guides and articles, including the MDU Journal, at a time and place that is convenient to them.

Caroline Fryar, head of Advisory Services at the MDU said: “We are delighted to offer our members guidance, advice and professional development through an app. As doctors have ever increasing workloads and busy lives, it was important for us to create a tool which would be a convenient and useful way for our members to access practical advice and support whilst on-the-go.”

The MDU created the new app after they surveyed members on their technology use and found that 69.4 per cent would use an MDU app. Many members said they already used apps from providers including the BNF, NICE and The BMJ, for work purposes.

The survey found that members aged 25-34 years were most likely to use a medical related app for work (75.4 per cent) while those aged 55-64 years old were the least likely (33.6 per cent).

The app is available for all members to download on their iPhone, iPad, Android phone and Android tablet via the Apple and Google app stores.
