Should GPs have to pay to register with the Care Quality Commission?

For some, the answer is clear:
At the annual LMCs Conference last week, Dr Brian McGregor, of North Yorkshire LMC, said: “General practice is not afraid of regulation. We are already subject to oversight by 28 different agencies. [But] the ultimate cost of regulation should not fall on GPs.” (quote from the magazine Pulse)

And indeed, cost concerns arose at an early stage with initial fears that GPs could face £1,500 registration fee with CQC.

One thing is certain however, GPs practices must get ready to engage with the CQC registration process to meet the April 2013 deadline. As GPs face a bureaucracy pile up until 2013, concentrating efforts sooner rather than later on this substantial objective seems critical.
