Flu jabs recommended for those aged over 60

Free flu jabs should be offered to everyone aged 60 and over, experts have recommended.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation believe the current age limit of 65 is too high and that reducing this limit by five years would cut the number of flu-related hospital admissions. An increase in such admissions has been seen in people aged over 50.

The committee was told the Netherlands had extended its flu vaccination programme to include the over-60s in 2007.
