The former chief executive of Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust has resigned two months after the Healthcare Commission published a highly critical report.
A full-time replacement is now being sought by the trust for Martin Yeates, who stepped down from his post at the beginning of March, but has just formally tended his resignation.
The trust was the subject of one of the most critical regulator reports of recent years published in March by the Healthcare Commission, which spoke of appalling standards there and how it had “lost sight of its real priorities” in its desperation to become a foundation trust.
Following an inquiry into standards of care at the trust’s emergency services, the Healthcare Commission identified many failings including serious understaffing, lack of training and multiple management failures. The investigation was triggered by high mortality rates at the trust since April 2005.
Current interim chairman at the trust David Stone said in a statement: “We received formal notification today that Martin Yeates has resigned from the trust.
“The trust is actively seeking to recruit a new chief executive officer to drive forward the continuing transformation of Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust and help the trust, its staff and patients move forward with confidence.”
