UK drug pricing; and drug-resistant gonorrhoea

Thursday, 07 June 2012

"Drug pricing: The government is too focused on encouraging "breakthrough" drugs in British science at a cost of incremental innovation, according to a warning by the head of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, ahead of negotiations over a NHS pricing deal," The Times says in a single paragraph story. (p40)

"Drug resistant gonorrhoea is spreading across the world," says the Independent headline (p14).

There could soon be no sound treatment for the sexually transmitted disease which effects around 100 million people a year, the paper says.

The World Health Organization has issued an appeal for better data, including what countries have registered resistance to their last line of antibiotics, as well as more new drugs to tackle the disease, according to The Independent.
