GP registered patient numbers rise to almost 60 million

The number of patients registered at GP practices in England is rising steadily, according to new figures*, reaching more than 59 million this month.
The data from NHS Digital published today shows there were 723,337 more patients registered at a GP practice in England as of 1 August compared to the same day in August 2018.
Patient numbers registered on 1 August were 59,957,750, up from 59,234,413 at the start of August 2018.
There was also a rise from the figure of 58,538,696 in August 2017.
NHS Digital said the data for this publication were extracted each month as a snapshot in time from the GP Payments system that it maintained. The latest data represented an accurate “snapshot” as at 1 August 2019.
