Flu vaccine bans, antidepressant alert and internet awareness

Friday, 26 October 2012

The Wall Street Journal covers the Swiss and Italian bans on Novartis flu vaccines on grounds of possible contamination. (p21)

The paper juxtaposes the companies' insistence that the jabs are safe with the equal insistence of regulators that the companies have not proven that to their satisfaction.

The Daily Mail (p13) and The Times (p28) say pregnant women have been warned over the risks of antidepressants.

The Times argues little is known about the effect of the agents on mother and child with U.S. scientists saying: "Doctors are conducting a 'large-scale human experiment' on unborn babies by prescribing the pills in pregnancy."

The Daily Telegraph says, according to research in the British Journal of General Practice, patients who look up symptoms and treatments on the internet "may get better care" when they present at their doctors (p12)
