My medical interests are eclectic, my views are capricious. Above my desk there is a sign that reads' 'Change does not always mean progress'. My skepticism is usually (but not always) healthy, and it may well be that my disinclination to engage with the political initiative of the day has hindered my career. I rather think I would be a much better leader of the opposition than a prime minister though I suspect that I have by now missed the opportunity for a career in the House of Commons - and, despite the rewards of the new consultant contract, I don't even have enough cash to buy a peerage. Perhaps I should try cyber-journalism to give voice to my contrarian views.

Author

Ian Forgacs

Ian Forgacs graduated from Guy's, did postgraduate training (amongst other places) at St Thomas' and has been on the staff at King''s since 1986. Ian is therefore archetypal GKT man. He may be a cutting edge consultant gastroenterologist but also regards himself as one of the last of that dying breed: the general physician. Although he spends much of his working day pushing fibreoptic tubes into parts where the sun does not shine, he has nevertheless illuminated several non-clinical areas. In particular, he shone as a long-term member of the senior editorial committees of BMJ and Gut. He has also thrust much light upon the murky world of postgraduate medical training. He may have too many interests outside medicine for his own good but chief among these are Shakespeare, Mozart and Arsenal - preferably not all at the same time.
